PORT KLANG, 13 October 2025 – Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport” or “Company”), a member of MMC Group, has achieved another remarkable milestone by setting a new monthly highest record for its conventional cargo handling in September 2025.

For its conventional cargo handling, Northport recorded a total throughput of 1,327,883 FWTs (“Freight Weight Tonnes”) in September 2025, surpassing its previous highest record of 1,277,409 FWTs set in October 2024. This new achievement underscores the continued strength and resilience of Northport’s conventional cargo operations amid evolving global and regional trade conditions.

The record-breaking performance was driven by strong growth across all cargo segments. The break bulk segment recorded 375,169 FWTs in September 2025, marking an increase of 18.6% compared to September 2024, with iron and steel cargo contributing the highest volume of 289,629 FWTs. Meanwhile, the liquid bulk segment achieved 399,086 FWTs in September 2025, an increase of 27.3% compared to September 2024, driven primarily by higher chemical cargo volumes totalling 220,147 FWTs.

The dry bulk segment recorded 439,003 FWTs in September 2025, reflecting an increase of 38.7% compared to September 2024, with maize contributing the highest volume of 122,223 FWTs. The Roll-On Roll-Off (or RoRo) segment also registered strong growth, achieving 114,625 FWTs in September 2025, representing an increase of 23.7% compared to the same month last year.

Northport’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Nik Muzani Nik Abdul Aziz said the new milestone highlights the Company’s operational strength and strategic positioning within Malaysia’s maritime ecosystem.

“This record-breaking performance reflects the trust of our customers, the dedication of our workforce, and the effectiveness of our continuous improvement initiatives. Despite ongoing challenges in the global supply chain, our team has once again demonstrated resilience and excellence in conventional cargo handling,” said Nik Muzani.

For the year-to-date (or YTD) period up to September 2025, Northport’s conventional cargo handling stood at 9,600,675 FWTs, reflecting a growth of 4.2% compared to the same period in 2024. For the record, Northport handled a total of 12,691,633 FWTs of conventional cargo in 2024, the highest annual volume recorded since the establishment of Northport in 2001.

Nik Muzani added that this achievement is a testament to Northport’s unwavering commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

“As we move towards the final quarter of 2025, we will continue to focus on enhancing productivity, expanding our service capabilities, and supporting the nation’s trade growth through efficient and sustainable port operations,” he said.

Northport remains one of Malaysia’s leading multi-purpose ports, offering a full spectrum of container and conventional cargo handling services. The Company continues to play a vital role in supporting the Nation’s trade and industrial ecosystem under the MMC Ports Group.
