KUALA LUMPUR, 9 March 2026 – Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group, reached a significant milestone in its sustainability journey on 12 February 2026 after being conferred the prestigious 3 Diamond Recognition at the Majlis Anugerah Bandar Rendah Karbon 2025 held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
The award was presented by YB Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), to the Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port, Md Derick Basir, in recognition of Johor Port’s measurable progress in reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining Operational performance.
The recognition forms part of the national Low Carbon City Challenge 2030 (LCC2030C), initiative led by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC). Johor Port was recognised under the Low Carbon Zone category for its operations in Pasir Gudang, demonstrating that Industrial and Port activities can grow responsibly alongside environmental stewardship.
Compared to the 2019 baseline year, Johor Port achieved measurable environmental improvements across its operations including a 14.96% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions through initiatives in Energy, Water and Waste Management. These efforts resulted in the mitigation of 2,108.69 tCO₂e of Greenhouse Gas emissions through operational efficiency measures and a 15.41% Carbon Sequestration Potential equivalent to 109.66 tCO₂e annually, through the preservation of green areas within Johor Port’s environment landscape.
The achievement reflects the collective commitment of Johor Port’s workforce, Operational teams and stakeholders in embedding sustainability into everyday port activities, from energy management and resource optimization to responsible waste handling. Johor Port’s recognition also forms part of a wider success story for the Pasir Gudang industrial ecosystem and underscores the collaborative effort between local industries and Majlis Bandaraya Pasir Gudang (MBPG) to transform the region into a premier Low-Carbon Industrial Hub.
The LCC2030C Framework provides a robust, third-party verification of Johor Port’s emissions data, ensuring transparency and accountability in its journey toward a greener Maritime industry. This recognition serves as a critical benchmark that aligns with Johor Port’s ESG 2030 targets.
Johor Port Berhad stated that the recognition reflects the efforts of its team in integrating sustainable practices into daily port operations. Sustainability is embedded in the way Johor Port operates, rather than being treated as a standalone initiative. Through continuous efforts to improve energy efficiency and strengthen environmental management practices, the port remains committed to ensuring that business growth goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility. Johor Port is also proud to contribute to Pasir Gudang’s low-carbon ecosystem while supporting Malaysia’s broader climate ambitions and continuing to provide reliable services to its customers.
The LCC2030C Certification also provides independent verification of Johor Port’s emissions management and supports the Port’s ESG 2030 roadmap, reinforcing transparency and accountability in its sustainability reporting.
Moving forward, Johor Port remains committed to exploring innovative Green technologies, enhancing Operational efficiencies and strengthening collaboration with industry partners and local authorities. The recognition serves as both an achievement and a motivation as the Port advances its efforts toward supporting Malaysia’s aspiration of achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2050.
