NORTHPORT EMPLOYEES HELP FLOOD VICTIMS THROUGH DONATION CAMPAIGN

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 January 2021 – The torrential monsoon rains in Malaysia at the start of 2021 has led to massive floods in several states. The floods have forced thousands of people to flee their homes and seek shelter at relief centres.

As a caring corporate citizen, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of the MMC Group, has organised a donation campaign to give its employees an opportunity to contribute and help the affected flood victims.

A total of RM14,692.00 was successfully raised during the campaign, to be donated to the victims through the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA).

MRA is a non-profit humanitarian organisation with the primary objective of assisting those affected by natural disasters or armed conflicts, both locally and abroad.

The donation was handed over by Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport to Dato’ Dr. Mohd Daud Sulaiman, President of MRA during a simple ceremony held at the MRA headquarters in Cheras.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has already affected a lot of lives and the floods have further adversely impacted these people’s lives. We hope that our donation will help ease the burden of the flood victims, whose livelihood has been put on hold due to the damaging effects of the disaster,” said Dato’ Azman.

Dr. Mohd Daud said that MRA is targeting a total contribution of RM 500,000.00 to be donated to flood victims throughout Malaysia through 10 MRA branches nationwide. Assistance to be provided includes basic food packs, medical supplies, baby milk, blankets and towels as well as volunteer management for post-flood cleaning.

“We thank Northport for their contribution to the Flood Emergency Relief Fund 2021, to help flood victims, especially in severely affected states such as Pahang, Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu. We hope Northport will continue to become MRA’s strategic partner for our future humanitarian missions,” added Dr. Mohd Daud.

Northport has participated in humanitarian aid missions to help flood victims in the past. In 2015, Northport distributed essential needs to the flood victims in Kelantan and Pahang which were severely hit by a massive flood, the worst in the history of the states.

In April last year, Northport has also organised a similar donation campaign, to give its employees the opportunity to contribute and support our frontline workers in battling the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation raised in the campaign was used to purchase personal protective equipment and food items to be distributed to the hospital, health clinics and police stations around Klang.

“This donation is a reflection of our caring, sensitive, generous and kind-hearted employees to help our fellow Malaysians affected by the natural disaster. Northport will continue to stand in solidarity with those in dire need of help and support, during this difficult time,” added Dato’ Azman.
