NORTHPORT PROMOTES SAFETY AND HEALTH AWARENESS THROUGH ‘SAFETY DAY 2022’

KONTENA NASIONAL BERHAD EXPANDS ITS FLEET WITH THE ADDITION OF 30 NEW PRIME MOVERS

Kontena Nasional Berhad received 30 units of Volvo’s FM440 6×2 T RAS prime movers from Volvo Trucks Malaysia in a fleet expansion and modernisation move.

PORT KLANG, 19 December 2022 – Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of MMC Group organised a Northport Safety Day 2022 for its employees and port users on 2 December 2022. With the theme “Demi Keluarga Anda, Utamakan Keselamatan” (“For Your Family’s Sake, Safety First”), the programme aimed at emphasising the importance of prioritising safe and healthy working practices among employees for the sake of their loved ones.

The programme kicked off with the presentation of “Best Safety Performer Awards”, where recognition was given to outstanding employees for their exemplary commitment to safety and health. Present during the event were Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of Northport, the Management and the family members of the award recipients. The event was made even more special with the presence of the former national bodybuilder, Dato’ Haji Abd Malek Md Noor, Executive Director of Universal Fitness & Leisure Sdn Bhd. In keeping with the theme of the programme, the awards were presented by the employees’ family members and witnessed by the CEO of Northport.

Various activities were organised throughout Northport’s Safety Day 2022 which included free health screening services and exhibition by 16 agencies and companies, including the Department of Safety & Health (“DOSH”), National AntiDrugs Agency Malaysia (“AADK”), Social Security Organisation (“SOCSO”), Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad, National Higher Education Fund Corporation (“PTPTN”), Fitness First and several other exhibitors. To promote and encourage a healthy culture among Northport employees, there was also a workout demonstration by Dato’ Haji Abd Malek Md Noor and the programme ended with an aerobic exercise led by Fitness First.

“After two years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Northport Safety Day celebration is back with exciting activities to encourage the culture of health and safety among members of TeamNorthport. This programme also demonstrates our continuous effort to cultivate the importance of safety and health among our employees, and for the best performers, an opportunity to share their proud moment with their family members too,” said Dato’ Azman.

Northport has won several awards and recognitions both locally and internationally for its health and safety initiatives this year. In May, Northport won the International Association of Ports and Harbors (“IAPH”) 2022 Sustainability Award under the Health Safety and Security category during the IAPH 2022 World Ports Conference held in Vancouver, Canada. With a project titled “Journey Towards HSE Excellence”, Northport defeated two other finalists, Port of Montreal and Port of Amsterdam, in this category. Northport is the first Malaysian port to receive this prestigious international award.

Last month, Northport made a clean sweep of awards at the National Occupational Safety and Health Awards 2020/2021. Northport took home three awards namely the CEO of the Year (Private Sector), Business Services and Mentor-Mentee (Mentor) awards. The award event which was organised by the National Council of Occupational Safety and Health (“NCOSH”), is one of the most prestigious events in Malaysia to honour organizations and individuals with proven outstanding occupational safety and health performance.

“The awards and recognitions received has further motivated us to continue serving our customers and stakeholders by delivering efficient service safely and sustainably, and at the same time elevating the safety and health culture to greater heights in our journey to be a Safer, Greener, Smarter and Better port,” concluded Dato’ Azman.
