PTP HOSTS INAUGURAL HSSES WEEK 2024: A CELEBRATION OF SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY
On 2 to 6 August 2024, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, has successfully hosted its inaugural Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Sustainability (HSSES) Week 2024. With the theme, “From Adherence to Commitment”, PTP underscored its unwavering dedication to creating a sustainable and responsible operating environment.
The opening ceremony was graced by Datuk Seri Utama Ir. Hasni Bin Mohammad, Chairman of Johor Sustainability Centre; Mark Hardiman, PTP Chief Executive Officer; and Dato’ Monaliza Suhaimi, Johor Port Authority General Manager. Also present in support of the program were Tuan Haji Jaafar Haji Leman, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Johor Director, and other DOSH officials.
One of the most significant highlights of the week was the announcement of PTP’s 2024 “Safety Heroes” winners. This award recognises individuals who have gone above and beyond in embodying our commitment to safety, setting a remarkable example for all PTP’s members.
The “Safety Commitment Award” was presented to Muhammad Hussin bin Zulkefli, a Lashing Leader from the Operations Division. Hussin’s unwavering commitment to safety has inspired his entire team, making him an exemplary figure. His hands-on approach ensures that safety procedures are not only followed but also continuously improved.
The “Safety Excellence Award” went to Jafri Omar, Head of the Asset, Labour and Breakbulk Section from the Operations Division. Jafri’s consistent leadership in promoting a safe work environment has made him a true role model. His active participation in safety committees, gemba walks, and safety briefings demonstrates his dedication to workplace safety.
In addition to the safety awards, the Eco Lestari 3R program, a CSR initiative aimed at promoting environmental conservation and education, was another highlight of the week. Students from local schools participated in various activities, including workshops on recycling, composting, and mangrove conservation.
Beyond the Eco Lestari program, PTP also organised a variety of activities to foster a culture of excellence in HSSES. These include health screenings, safety talks, environmental workshops, and mental well-being sessions.
PTP’s HSSES Week 2024 Program is perfectly aligned with the direction of the industry where the push for greater sustainability and more stringent safety standards is not just a trend, it is the future. By embracing this commitment now, PTP is positioning itself to not just adapt, but to lead the way.
